EDITORIAL
Welcome to the fourth issue of Megadisc, bigger, better and green for
summer. I'd like to thank all the punters out there, you good people of
great discernment who have bought and subscribed to the mag - keep it
up and spread the word, and not, as they say, the disc. Sales have been
growing steadily, and it really does seem that you are finding Megadisc
a useful resource/mag. If there are any ways that you think it could be
improved (as quite a few people have!), please let me know. And don't
forget we can help you out with Public Domain disks (now $6.50) training,
etc - check MDServices in the Subs&Extras drawer.
Megadisc4 is even more value-packed than previous issues. There is a
number of excellent programs for your delectation - particularly the
92-function Calculator and Starmap programs by Keith Neighbour; the
Do-It-Yourself MIDI interface by Steve Wright; and the Sampled Sound
Player by Mike Hansell. And of course the usual information-packed
articles, kaleidoscopic graphics for the jaded optic nerve by Graeme
Whittle, who's also written a fine article on DigiPaint, and Perry
Papadopoulos and Gunther Srick, and a bunch of other stuff - some fine
icons by Gunther and Brett Culloden, all about Escape Codes by Ross
Kellaway, sysop of Club Amiga BBS, and more.
Thanks are also due to some others who have given their time and
efforts freely - Paul Chatfield for general help and especially for
constructing and lending his "5-drive tower" for copying; Anne
McCullogh for help in typing; Gareth and Brenda Powell at the Commodore
Review for making life easier in various ways; Andrew Farrell, editor
of the C64 DiskMag; Simon Tek, Dave Waters and David Ransome for
contributions of various kinds; Andrew for help with packaging; Brett
Culloden for sending in a good disk and letting us use his icons; and
all you good people who have written in with suggestions, hints, tips
and even blatant compliments.
Ian Vanderfield, who was co-editing Megadisc, is now concentrating on
his job - but he is still dealing in the "Amazing Computing" magazine
at a good price. He can be reached on (02) 903380. Thanks for all the
help, Ian. He is also importing some good software, such as Zirkonics
Professional Text Engine (see "WPOverview") and Microfiche Filer, so
call him if you're interested in those and other programs.
Any enquiries about Megadisc should be directed to the (02) 959 3692
number or the usual postal address [P. O. Box 759, Crows Nest, 2065].
The "Great Megadisc Giveaway" will be drawn at the end of November, so
that the prizes will arrive as a kind of pre-Xmas present for the lucky
winners - they'll be announced in the next issue. So there is still a
little time for entering the competition - check Megadisc3 for details.
Absolute final closing date is November 30, when names will be drawn
out of a hat by a lady of our acquaintance.
Finally, keep those cards, letters and orders coming in. There's a lot
of interesting development going on in different places round the
country, and there are many people who have just started on the steep
learning curve - so the invitation's always open to you to send in
articles, programs, hints, reviews, or something entirely different.
Anyone who does will get free Megadiscs, along with 5 public domain
discs of any kind of their choice (ie, send something in on disc, and
specify what you'd like sent back on the disc - a Fish disk, Amicus
disk, MD Theme disc, you name it). All the contributors on Megadisc
have given their time and knowledge for the hell of it and because they
think that someone out there might find it useful - so someone is sure
to find your contribution useful too.
I hope you enjoy the disc, and there's plenty of good stuff coming
up on Megadisc5.
Tim Strachan, ed. and pub. (and sometimes ed. in pub).
